It was my pleasure to write a recent article for Advancing Philanthropy, a publication for the members of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and executives of nonprofit organizations and institutions.
The article, called “Online Fundraising: Fact vs. Fiction” is published in the current January/February 2011 issue. In it, I discuss five of the most common misconceptions around online fundraising and reveal the facts behind them.
- Online fundraising in not as effective as offline fundraising. FICTION!
- Donors are increasingly comfortable with giving online. FACT!
- You can raise more money by reaching donors where they already are online. FACT!
- Set high expectations to achieve better results. FACT!
- Drop everything! You have to stop whatever else you are doing and focus on online giving in order to make it successful. FICTION!
