Stacy's pest control recommendations

So, I've been getting lots of questions lately about security. Everyone wants to know what I do to keep my computers running clean and healthy. So to prevent me from having to type this into one more email, I'm putting here.

This is quick list of programs and utilities I use for "pest control." Download, install. More instructions to come soon.

First, you need antivirus. Use AVG Free Edition:

That should be a direct link to the download. If it doesn't work, click here, and download from the Major Geeks TX site:

Next, you need a firewall. Use ZoneAlarm:

The direct link and if it doesn't work, go here and click download from the Author's Site:

That's the basic stuff. For full protection, also use…

File Sweeper (cleans up useless files that slow you down). Use CCleaner:

Run this FIRST to clean up junk so your scans go faster!

Anti-spyware. Use SpyBot Search & Destroy:

After you download it, update it and then Immunize to prevent future infections. And then run a full scan and let it fix any problems it finds. Run this program (update too) at least every 2 weeks, preferably every week and a computer that does a lot of surfing.

That's probably more info than you ever wanted! Good luck and let me know if you have questions!
